Rod Stewart has publicly defended fellow aging singer Sir Paul McCartney in his high-profile divorce row.
Lady Heather Mills McCartney, the ex-Beatle's estranged wife, claimed that her husband physically and verbally abused her during their marriage.
Stewart, who is set to marry model Penny Lancaster, told Chris Evans' Radio 2 show that he believes the allegations to be false.
Commenting on Sir Paul, who has admitted to smoking marijuana, Stewart said: "He might be a drug-taker but I don't think he's a wife-beater."
Stewart then urged him to stand his ground during the court battle.
"I think he should fight her. I think his name has been slurred," he said.
Leaked divorce papers have revealed that Lady Mills McCartney believes Sir Paul takes illicit drugs and drinks copious amount of alcohol.
As well as Rod Stewart, the Sun reports that both Stella McCartney, Sir Paul's daughter from his first marriage, and Kate Moss have pledged their support against Lady Mills McCartney.
Mishcon de Reya, lawyers acting on behalf of Lady McCartney, announced earlier this week that she is to sue a number of British newspapers over "false, damaging, and immensely upsetting" claims about her relating to their divorce.
