The Spice Girls' former manager and the creator of Mamma Mia! are to produce a musical based on the girl band, it has been announced.
Viva Forever, which takes it names from the quintet's 1998 chart-topper, will be developed by impresario Simon Fuller and stage producer Judy Craymer, Fuller has confirmed.
Craymer's love of Abba inspired a stage sensation in the shape of Mamma Mia! with the musical inspiring the 2008 Warner Bros film, the highest grossing of all time in the UK.
And with the Spice Girls having sold some 75 million records worldwide, Viva Forever could become a box office attraction of equal proportions.
The group themselves are "very excited" about the plans, Fuller explained.
"What Judy has achieved with her all-conquering box office smash hit Mamma Mia! and what the Spice Girls created with their powerful record-breaking mix of girl power and hit songs, has influenced pop culture more than anyone can imagine," he added.
Craymer said she intended to "create a unique celebration of the band and its music, with its own flavour and joyful message".
"It is important to me that the excitement, style and humour of the Spice Girls is well represented on stage."
