Robbie Williams has revealed he may have been 24 hours away from death at the height of his addiction to prescription medication.

The Angels singer, whose new album Reality Killed the Video Star is released in November, has admitted his dependence on the painkiller Vicodin - a drug found in Michael Jackson's body after his death - could have killed him.

The former Take That star checked himself into a rehabilitation clinic on his 33rd birthday in 2007 and believes the decision saved his life.

"I would do 20 Vicodin in a night," he told the Sun. "I was on my way out. I might have been 24 hours away from dying."

He added: "At the time you don't give a s*** if you pop your clogs. I must have been very, very close.

"I would have carried on, to be honest. You get to the point that far into your addiction, you're not bothered whether you live or die, because that's where it takes you."

The 35-year-old revealed he has also taken LSD, ecstasy, amphetamines, cocaine and heroin, but said his most damaging dependency was "the American addiction", referring to prescription medication.

In a separate interview with GQ magazine, Williams confirmed a reunion with his former Take That bandmates was likely to happen, although he added "not in the next 18 months, two years".

"There's contracts to fulfil. And then I can do what I want", he said.

Williams explained a meeting with Take That in Los Angeles last year - while they were recording their chart-topping album The Circus - had been a significant moment for himself and his relationship with Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Jason Orange.

"We all had a massive chat, one of those chats that other bands who split up can't seem to have," he added.

"It was really healing, if that doesn't sound too nancy. And at the end of it everything had gone and we were in the kitchen and I'd got my arm around Gary. I just loved him. I think he felt the same way. It was really beautiful."
