The likelihood of DJ AM having died as a result of suicide has increased after police sources said he had undigested Oxycontin tablets in his stomach.
The 36-year-old, who was once engaged to Nicole Richie, was found dead at his New York home on Saturday, with prescription medication and a crack pipe also found near his body.
And a law enforcement source quoted by People magazine claims the performer - real name Adam Goldstein - had swallowed several tablets of Oxycontin, a powerful painkiller dubbed 'hillbilly heroin' due to its potency.
"He wanted to die," a police source was quoted by People as saying.
"He was going unconscious when he took the last one. He didn't even swallow it."
Goldstein's death comes a year after he was in a plane crash in which four other people were killed.
In addition to the Oxycontin found in his stomach, police reportedly found a Valentine's Day card from Goldstein's ex-girlfriend, adding to speculation he took his own life after the pair's break-up.
Official autopsy results, including toxicology tests, have not been released, while sources close to Goldstein say they believe his death to be accidental.
Newspaper reports claimed the DJ had relapsed into drug addiction but had pledged to return to rehab.
