Paul Weller will receive the Godlike Genius prize at this year's NME Awards, the music magazine has confirmed.
The former Jam frontman will receive the prize at the annual award ceremony on February 24th, this year presented by Jarvis Cocker.
On hearing the news, Weller said: "I'm very happy to accept the award, I don't feel Godlike or a genius but I'm happy to have it.
"It's nice to be recognised, you get your rewards in other ways too like playing live and seeing people's reaction, but it's nice to be recognised. I'm very flattered."
Previous winners of the Godlike Genius prize include, The Cure, New Order, The Clash, Ian Brown and Manic Street Preachers.
Cocker, the lead singer of Pulp, said carrying the awards show would be "a challenge", adding: "I hope to keep people interested, stop them from dropping off… So yeah, let's do it. I'm excited about it."
The Shockwaves NME Awards 2010 will take place at the O2 Academy Brixton on 24th February.
Over one million votes have already been cast for the public voted awards including, Best British Band, Best Album and Best Solo Artist.
