Noel Gallagher is set to be honoured with the Godlike Genius title at this year's NME awards.

The former Oasis guitarist follows a long and illustrious line of artists that includes The Clash, Paul Weller and New Order, reports Reuters.

He will pick up the gong as rivals from the Britpop days of music Blur take home the outstanding contribution to music award at the ceremony next month.

Gallagher joked to the news agency that he has "dreamt of this moment since I was 43 years old. I accept that I am now a genius, just like God".

The ceremony is set to take place on 29th February at London's O2 Academy Brixton.

Oasis were the first band in the modern era to take home four awards in one year, winning best band, best live band, best album ((What's the Story) Morning Glory?) and best single (Wonderwall) in 1996.
