Reggae legend Bob Marley's bassist has failed to win a lawsuit earning him the right to a slice of the Marley profits.
Aston 'Family Man' Martin had argued that he was responsible for penning many of the songs on Marley's hit albums, including "Babylon by Bus", "Tatty Dreads" and "Rastaman Vibration".
He argued that together with his brother, who was Marley's drummer before being murdered in 1985, he was responsible for writing many of the reggae star's songs and was entitled to £60 million worth of royalties as a result.
"We always felt that this would be the outcome and it was hard to listen to Aston Barrett reduce his friend Bob to someone who was more interested in playing football than making music," Bob Marley's family said in a statement, referring to Martin's continual claim that Bob Marley's soccer obsession was more important to him than songwriting.
In addition to claiming the creation of many of Bob Marley's back catalogue songs, the 60-year-old bassist is also believed to have fathered 52 children.
He will have to hope that his progeny, however large, will be able to fend for themselves as Martin will now have to pay legal costs close to £2 million.
