Legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young has seen his greatest works covered by a host of other artists as he received an award from the US Recording Academy.
The Heart of Gold star was named the Musicares person of the year for his "influential artistic accomplishments and philanthropic work".
Elton John sang Young’s Helpless, telling the audience the Canadian was "my hero" while other perfomers included Sheryl Crow, Davbe Matthews and James Taylor.
Young, who headlined the Friday night at last year's Glastonbury Festival, is a long-time supporter of the Farm Aid charity and also works with Bridge School Concerts, which raises money to aid children with physical and vocal disabilities.
"I'd forgotten how many songs I'd written," Young said receiving the charity honour.
"It's been a great night. It wore me out. Now I've got to go back and try and write some more songs.”
Young’s former bandmates David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash were the last to take to the stage, telling Young: "We made some of the best music of our lives with you, man."
