Mills-McCartney saga finally comes to an end

Monday, 12 May 2008 13:02
Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills' marriage is officially over
The ill-fated marriage of Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills has finally come to an end at London's high court today.

Mr Justice Bennett granted the divorce on the grounds that the former couple had lived apart for two years.

Neither McCartney nor Mills were present at the brief hearing.

The decree nisi follows the divorce settlement that was granted in March, which handed Mills £24.3 million.

Mills was opposed to the publication of the ruling due to fears over breaches of her and her daughter's Beatrice's privacy but this appeal was rejected and the full ruling was published the next day.

In this Mr Justice Bennett described Mills as a "strong-willed and determined personality" and said she was a "less than impressive witness" after giving "inconsistent and inaccurate" reports for much of her evidence.

McCartney however was described as "consistent, accurate and honest".

Mills and McCartney were married in 2002 and separated four years later.

They have one daughter, Beatrice, together.
