Troubled singer George Michael's refusal to abstain from drug-taking will end in him killing himself, according a close friend.
Toby Bourke, who has written a number of lyrics for the former Wham man, revealed today the tragic extent to which narcotics are controlling Michael's life.
And speaking to the Daily Mirror, Bourke insisted there is only one possible outcome, unless the pop superstar makes drastic changes to his lifestyle.
"I fear he's putting his life at risk. He needs to get professional help before it is too late," he said.
"Drugs have turned him into a stoned waster and made him depressed. Dope is his poison.
"He was easily getting through 20 joints a day. He would smoke one, take a break, then spark another one up."
Michael, 42, real name Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, has found himself increasingly in trouble with police in recent months, for drug, drink and driving offences.
His mental and physical condition has been said to be deteriorating rapidly and Bourke added: "It's heartbreaking to see how much worse he has got in recent years."
