The thorny question of Madonna's mock crucifixion has caused controversy throughout Europe, but that's no excuse for any kind of tongue-in-cheek terrorism.
That's the view of Robert Meulenbroek, spokesman for the prosecuting office dealing with the case of a Dutch priest so incensed by Madonna's touring live show that he phoned in to falsely report a bomb threat.
The 63-year-old priest made the disruptive call from his home phone, allowing police to easily trace the number and address of the unlikely criminal mastermind.
"We take bomb threats seriously, but in this case it was clear very quickly that it was not real," the Associated Press news agency reported Mr Meulenbroek as saying.
At the centre of the furore is the material girl's current show, which features Madge wearing a crown of thorns and enacting the crucifixion during one of her songs.
Her onstage antics have outraged spiritual leaders up and down Europe, with representatives of several religions protesting in Rome and German demonstrators pressuring the authorities to take legal action.
So far though no such action has been taken - allowing the 48-year-old to enjoy maximum publicity with minimum cost from her controversial tour.
