Sarah Garrod sees the Scousers in sparkling form at the north Wales music and sports festival.
The Zutons returned to their second Wakestock gig at the weekend, fresh from their stint in LA where they have been recording a new album.
The band was unlucky to have their set coincide with headliner on the main stage Dizzee Rascal, who unfortunately for them stole most of the crowd.
Festivalgoers had been left soaked and knee-deep in mud following Saturday's "extreme" rainfall, but with Sunday's weather significantly more cheerful, the 15,000 strong crowds were drawn to the outdoor stage. For the Zutons, who performed in the covered XFM Misadventures stage, the sunshine outside left a dwindled fan base for their performance.
However, those who did choose the band over Dizzie were well rewarded, with hit single Valerie in particular proving a real crowd pleaser for the quintet.
The Scousers delivered a great gig by all accounts with their "60s inspired Sci-Fi Trash rock", and no doubt initiated some strong support for their upcoming album.
Zutons-fan Chris, 24, said: "The Zutons on Sunday night were definitely a highlight of the whole weekend.
"Their crowd was quite small because of having to compete with Dizzee Rascal who was playing the main stage at the same time, but they were awesome. Everyone went mad when they played Valerie."
The band will be performing again in a few weeks at the Wickerman festival on July 25th.
