Mumford and Sons live up to the hype, delivering an evening of, life-affirming, singalong favourites to a sell-out crowd in Cambridge.

Just don't expect to be able to hear the band...

Rarely do a band achieve as much hype in both the alternative and mainstream communities as Mumford and Sons have achieved after just one album. The band, whose debut album Sigh No More came out last year, have received widespread critical acclaim, chart and radio success and have sold out two straight nights at the Shepherd's Bush Empire on their current tour. Not bad for an act that regularly succumbs to a banjo solo...

M&S, as we will, from this point forth, lovingly refer to them as, started life predominately as a live band and the stage is clearly where they are most comfortable. The live show consists of the whole of Sigh No More as well as some B-sides and new songs, which sounds every bit as huge as those on the current album.

One of M&S's biggest achievements has been the successful translation of an enormous live sound into something that is accessible on record and still succeeds in capturing the spirit and energy of the live show, an energy they waste no time in unleashing when they do get back on stage.

As the current tour is now, more or less, completely sold out, you probably won't get the chance to check them out on their current trip across the country and the band are heading across the pond for an extensive tour following this one. But don't worry because we expect the boys to be back with a vengeance for this summer's festivals so get in there early for the chance to share a field with some of Britain's finest young talent.

However, as previously stated, don't expect to hear too much of the band themselves over the combined vocals of your fellow audience members, as is aptly demonstrated in this (Borrowed, not my) video recorded on the night:
