A plethora of up-and-coming rock bands are emerging from Ireland in the wake of a recent comeback gig, writes Lee Davis.
When comeback kings Indigo Fury rocked Enniskillen's Blakes complex earlier this month, they were supported by a roster of bands that featured punks Momma's Slippers and funksters Yellow Car No Return.
Punk outfit Momma's Slippers ignited the crowd when lead singer Anthony Breen picked up an acoustic guitar and effortlessly covered David Bowie's Five Years and Cure classic Friday, I'm In Love.
Although Breen really came to life when he powered through his own compositions Slip Away, This Is Not A Protest and Song About Juliette.
Momma's Slippers set the stage for the nifty funk stylings of mavericks Yellow Car No Return.
The three-piece, fronted by singer-bassist Luke Burns, blazed through a set that opened with a fine cover of Rory Gallagher's Bad Penny and went on to include Billy and Negative Space.
Before headliners Indigo Fury came on, grunge-inspired ensemble the Savage Rabbits unleashed some early 90s angst with tracks like Baby Doll and Not To Need courtesy of singer Nathan Ternan's spot-on Eddie Vedder-esque vocals.
The venue then exploded into cheers and applause as raucous rockers Indigo Fury made their return.
Frontman Rory Lavelle smiled and thanked the eager crowd and his band sizzled through new numbers Drive, Case Adjourned and their latest single Something Happened, a blinding fusion of the pop-rock sensibilities of the Strokes and the Stereophonics.
But the band didn't disappoint long-time fans either as they ploughed their way through a back catalogue set that boasted crowd-pleasers like Darker, Not Today and If You Want Me Too.
