inthenews.co.uk's Jamie Reid looks at the return of Field Day to east London's Victoria Park.
The Field Day festival returns on Saturday August 9th after making its debut at the same venue last summer.
Field Day organisers describe this year's offering as an "exemplary cross-section of leftfield bands, artists and DJs for the true music lovers". This year's event promises to be bigger and better than the 2007 offering (with organisers promising there will be no repeat of the teething problems witnessed at the inaugural event that saw huge bar and toilet queues and food stalls running out of stock mid-afternoon!).
Some of the finest up-and-coming musicians and DJs take to the park across five different stages. Eat Your Own Ears, Adventures In The Beetroot Field, NME, Bugged Out!, Homefires and Bloggers Delight will each take charge of an individual stage, with their own specially selected artists.
Artists appearing at this year's event include Foals, Mercury-nominated Fionn Regan, Mystery Jets, Magistrates, Richie Hawtin (Minus, Berlin) with a very exclusive visuals show by Ali Demirel, King Creosote (as a duo), Wild Beasts, Simian Mobile Disco, and The Notwist. Also, be sure to look out for Of Montreal, the seven-piece experimental indie pop act from Georgia USA - who always put on a good show and should not be missed at this year's event!
This festival with a twist also has a dedicated Village Green area, inspired by summer sports days of yesteryear. As well as a variety of country fetes, the area will be hosting a range of events ranging from the quirky and nostalgic, to the outright weird! These include the egg and spoon race, Tug O' War, Pom Pom International (making pompoms for world piece?!) a "semi-professional" sack race and the intriguingly named Bowling for Bacon... which is probably best left unexplained!
Door open at 11.30am and the first acts appear at midday. There are still tickets available.
