In the searing afternoon heat the Second Stage tent at Wireless is packed and steaming, as we await the appearance of German electro duo Digitalism.
As well as making a significant splash on the electronic music scene, their debut album, released almost two years ago, has had its tracks featured on an array of TV programmes and computer games, and the diverse crowd gathered it is testament to the band's commercial appeal.
Their set plays a little like slightly disjointed version of the album, with crowd-pleasers Idealistic, Pogo and Magnets all present among some of the album's less obvious offerings. The sound quality in the tent does not quite cut it, with vocals and melodies lost amidst varying levels. Still, the duo are on energetic form, bouncing around on stage like a punk act, and working the crowd well.
Perhaps it is the nature of the audience, but I was hoping for a little more invention and even a showcase of some new tracks from the band's forthcoming album. Nevertheless what we get still suffices, a crowd-pleasing, intense 40 minutes from one of the most exciting electronic music acts around.
