Julia Ross on a Norwegian electropop outfit who are a fantastic and well-kept secret and a must-see live.
Everything in the build up to the set screamed hostility as people literally resorted to physical violence outside the main room, trying to wrestle their way in. Those who made it through the doors seemed to work through their rage to White Denim's odd brand of country and western, hard rock.
The entire mood seemed to lift from the moment Casiokids took to the stage - all beaming from ear to ear and apparently having a considerably better night than large subsections of their audience - launching straight into two insanely catchy tracks, what instantly made the Norwegian electro pop troupe a joy to watch was how much they clearly loved performing and hearing their own music; bouncing and shimmying along as enthusiastically as the newly energised crowd.
Moving on from these buoyant and crowd-pleasing openers, the group progressed into a strong vocals track before settling into a more complex and absorbing sound, which is perhaps more representative of their music as a whole. The entire performance remained utterly engaging and uplifting throughout however.
