Smile singer Lily Allen has admitted her recent announcement that she planned to record one more album and retire at 25 was just a joke.

The 22-year-old had claimed she wanted to quit the music industry last week, saying that being a pop star is "a great job but it doesn't leave time for what's important - like having a family".

"I'm only going to do one more album," she told the Sun, adding: "I just want to make some money - maybe I could retire at 25.

"I'd like to live in the country and have a walled garden, and chickens and pigs."

But talking to the Daily Mirror at the British Fashion Awards, the young singer admitted she had never really planned to quit the music business.

"Of course I'm not going to retire. This was the biggest joke in my life and I just cannot believe people would actually believe this junk," she said.

"I talk c**p all the time and they all know it, so how come this time they didn't get it. Silly people. I am having the best time of my life."

The Alright, Still star, currently dating Chemical Brother Ed Simons, has put her recent dramatic weight loss down to pursuing a more intensive exercise programme after being diagnosed with a heart murmur.
