Pop starlet Lily Allen has attracted the headlines after lambasting the New Musical Express (NME) in an online blog.
The 21-year-old singer, whose single Smile topped the charts earlier this year, wrote an entry on internet diary website MySpace complaining that the NME had decided to drop a feature involving her and four other prominent women high in a 'cool list' for 2006 from the front cover.
"I vowed not to work with them again, but as the context was so important, ie a strong female presence in music… I thought I might as well put aside my differences and do it," she wrote.
"I went to get a copy yesterday , and this is what we (the women) got. Another f***** Muse cover."
Allen's disappointment stemmed from the fact that she had been displaced from prominence on the NME front page to a smaller inset feature, while popular indie rocker band Muse, who have frequently appeared on the music newspaper's cover, did so again in this week's issue.
"I don't really think the NME are in any position to tell us who is cool and who isn't, personally I don't think a bunch of people sitting in an office drinking tea , inventing musical genres and watching Nathan Barley DVDs are leading any kind of cool brigade, do you?" she asked.
"You should take your heads out of you New Rave a**** and actually think about your responsibilities to youth culture , and to women in general."
