Leona Lewis, Queen and Annie Lennox have been confirmed to appear at a concert in celebration of Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday.

The X Factor winner will be joined by the Bohemian Rhapsody stars and the former Eurhythmic at the June 27th event, which takes place in London's Hyde Park.

A total of 46,664 tickets for the concert will go on sale on Friday, in commemoration of the former South African president's prison number during his 27-year incarceration.

Other artists confirmed for the bill include Razorlight, Sugababes, Dame Shirley Bassey and Simple Minds.

Andrea and Sharon Corr will also perform, along with the Soweto Gospel Choir, Jamelia, Eddy Grant and Simple Minds, who were part of the bill for the 1988 concert in honour of Mr Mandela's 70th birthday.

And according to a statement from concert organisers, the gig will also feature "several major artists keeping silent about their involvement in order to take both Mr Mandela and the audience by surprise".

The former South African leader announced the concert last year, commenting: "You all know that I am supposed to be retired.

"But my friends and the charitable organisations that bear my name want to use my 90th birthday year to raise funds to continue our work and so of course I want to help them," he explained.

"So, we have a bargain - I am going to London and they will host a concert in Hyde Park, which will raise awareness of our continuing work and much-needed funds."

Tickets for the 46664 Concert Honouring Nelson Mandela at 90 are available for £65 each.
