After 13 years of belting out some of the most successful pop songs of the 90s and noughties, Kevin Richardson has announced that he is to quit the Backstreet Boys.
In a statement on the band's official website, Richardson said that although his time with the band has been a "dream come true" it was time for him to pursue other interests.
"I have decided that it is time to leave the Backstreet Boys," he announced.
"It was a very tough decision for me but one that was necessary in order to move on with the next chapter of my life."
Despite leaving the other band members, Richardson said they would always have his "utmost love and support".
He also thanked the fans for "all the beautiful memories we have shared together" and said that he looked forward to including them in his next steps, although he failed to specify exactly what his plans are.
The band, whose hits have included I Want It That Way and Everybody (Backstreet's Back), announced that they have no intention of replacing Richardson and would always leave the door open for him to return.
Fans of the band should not dismay, as the remaining members are currently holed up in the recording studio working on material for their next album.
