Katy Perry has responded to the criticism she received after a photo of her holding a flick knife was released on the internet.
Last Wednesday, the Sun newspaper said the promotional photo by fashion photographer Terry Richardson had sparked public outrage.
The photo came to light a day after 16-year-old Joseph Lappin was stabbed to death outside a youth club in Liverpool
The US pop star responded by released a picture on her website showing herself holding a spoon with the caption: "I do condone eating ice cream with a very large spoon.
"Dear Sun, You deserve a time out. Your "journalistic" approach has half the soul of the National Enquirer. Shame on you."
Richard Taylor, the father of 11-year-old Damiola Taylor who was stabbed to death in 2000, criticised Perry for the original photo.
"This woman's behaviour is unacceptable," the 59-year-old was quoted by the Sun newspaper as saying.
"She must be out if her mind to pose for a picture like this. There is nothing glamourous about knives they wreck families.
"Any youngsters seeing her will think it is OK to carry a blade."
Perry, 23, is due to host the Europe MTV Awards in Liverpool on November 6th.
