Singer Katie Melua will perform more than 300ft below sea level today, in an attempt to enter the record books.
The 22-year-old star is hoping to break a new Guinness World Record for the world's deepest underwater gig.
The bizarre performance will take place on the Statoil Troll oil rig in the North Sea, watched by rig workers and an official adjudicator.
The gig will also be broadcast on Norwegian television.
Speaking ahead of the event, Melua's spokeswoman said that the singer and her band had undergone full medical examinations and would take part in emergency training prior to the show.
Melua, the UK's biggest-selling female artist, said that she was looking forward to making waves with her latest performance.
"I can't wait. If it comes off it will be a world record for the deepest ever underwater gig, which will be pretty cool," the star said.
The singer, who has spent the past three months touring the US, is expected back on dry land to perform a more ordinary concert at Wembley Arena on December 3rd.
