Grammy winner John Mayer has topped the US album chart with his fourth release Battle Studies as new efforts from Norah Jones and 50 Cent charted.
Mayer's album shipped around 286,000 copies in its first week on sale, according to industry monitor Nielsen SoundScan, to debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 200.
Andrea Bocelli's My Christmas held the number two spot but much of the top ten was comprised of new releases, with Jones' new release Fall entering in third with 180,000 sales.
Christian outfit Casting Crowns debuted at number four with Until the Whole World Hears while 50 Cent entered in fifth with Before I Self Destruct, though the rapper's album sold more than half a million fewer copies in its first week than his last release Curtis.
Britain's Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle is expected to battle American Idol star Adam Lambert for next week's number one spot.
