The registration deadline to buy tickets for this year's Glastonbury Festival is to be reopened after the event failed to sell out in the first two days of sales.

Thousands of fans flooded phone lines and a ticketing website at 09:00 BST on Sunday morning in an attempt to snap up a pass to the UK's biggest music festival.

But while previous events - including last year's festival - have been declared a sell-out within two hours of tickets being released, over 30,000 of the 137,500 tickets on sale were still available on Sunday afternoon.

Emily Eavis, daughter of festival founder Michael, has now said event organisers are to reopen registration to give people who missed the chance to register in March.

"We're having a massive influx of people saying they didn't register," she explained to BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat programme.

"So we're going to reopen registration and allow the extra people who want to come to do so."

The Somerset festival takes place at Worthy Farm in Pilton from June 27th until June 29th. While the headlining acts for the Pyramid Stage have been announced - with rap star Jay-Z joined by Kings of Leon and the Verve - much of the lineup remains a mystery, as in previous years.

Emily continued: "We had registration open for a month and we're just going to reopen it for a few days.

"To be honest, there aren't that many tickets left to sell. They'll probably trickle along I imagine over the next few weeks. There won't be a massive surge."

Other acts performing at this year's festival, a highlight of the UK music calendar, include Hot Chip, Leonard Cohen, Jimmy Cliff and British Sea Power.
