Singer George Michael has defended the use of cannabis on Michael Parkinson's chat show saying life would be easier if it was legal.

Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, the former Wham! frontman made a number of confessions on the ITV1 chat show, due to be aired on Saturday.

Referring to the time he was caught cruising for sex on Hampstead Heath the singer, due to be the first artist to play the new Wembley Stadium, appeared to be unfazed by the accompanying media frenzy.

"Believe me, I think that the sex I have is worth being in the paper for," he told the chat show host.

Earlier this month the Faith singer pleaded guilty to driving while unfit and is due to be sentenced in Brent magistrates court in north-west London on May 30th. In October he was found unconscious and slumped on the wheel of his Mercedes in north-west London.
Speaking of the incident, George asserted that his behaviour was irresponsible.

"Ultimately I didn't break the law. I did something stupid, and doing something irresponsible is not a position that I am normally used to defending myself in."

George said much of his behaviour had been caused by the death of his mother Lesley in 1997.

"I know I have a very self-destructive tendency since my mother died, I have got to be honest. That has kind of made itself clear in other ways," he said.
