An autobiography from rap superstar Eminem could be released as soon as October, according to the apparent publishers for the book.

According to the Orion Publishing Group, the 8 Mile star is working on his memoirs in an effort to combat rumour-mongering about his life.

In a statement released to the E! website, Orion senior commissioning editor Ian Preece said the book should hit the shelves on October 16th.

"Everyone has their own take on Eminem. Because of where he is from, people think they know where he is at, and what kind of person he really is," Preece said.

"This book cuts through all that and gets to the source. It has an edge."

As well as chronicling his rise to fame among the hip-hop battles of inner-city Detroit, the book would also explore the rapper's troubled childhood, his battles with his mother Debbie and his two failed marriages to childhood sweetheart Kim Scott.

Orion also said the book may contain artwork, unseen photographs and notes from Eminem's - real name Marshall Mathers - personal journals.

However, a response from his record label said the Orion statement was "inaccurate" as the autobiography remained a work in progress.

"It's unfortunate that someone who does not have intimate knowledge of [the project] felt compelled to jump the gun on announcing it by delivering partial and inaccurate information," a statement added.

"There is no firm release date scheduled, although it is anticipated to arrive in the latter part of the year."
