Don McLean and The Dubliners are set to be honoured at this year's BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Both acts are set to receive a lifetime achievement award for their services to the genre, and will both also perform at the ceremony at The Lowry in Salford on 8th February.

Formed in 1962, The Dubliners are one of Ireland's most recognisable folk groups, while McLean, who is best known for hits including American Pie and Vincent, has amassed more than 40 gold and platinum records worldwide.

In a statement, the singer thanked the BBC and the British public, adding that "the UK audience has been among the most loyal for over 40 years and without them certainly I wouldn't be considered for this honour".

He is also set to perform on Simon Mayo's Radio 2 Drivetime show live from the venue ahead of the ceremony.

Last year's lifetime award went to singer-songwriter Donovan.
