Oscar winner Dame Julie Andrews is to make her first British stage appearance in 30 years at a one-off show next year, it has been announced.
'An Evening with Julie Andrews', to be held at London's O2 Arena in May, will see the 74-year-old perform songs from her best-loved stage and screen performances and will also include a live narration of Simeon's Gift, the children's book written by the dame and her daughter Emma Walton.
"To perform once again in my homeland on the London stage will be a wonderful moment," Dame Julie commented.
"It is where it all began for me, and I am so excited to be able to share a brand new work with audiences."
The Sound of Music star will be accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Ian Fraser, and will be joined at the O2 by an ensemble of five performers, including West End and Broadway stars, a statement from promoters AEG Live said.
The one-off show at the former Millennium Dome will include renditions of songs from The Sound of Music, The King and I, South Pacific and Carousel.
David Campbell, chief executive and president of AEG Europe, remarked: "There are few acts who can be called legendary, but Julie Andrews is certainly one of them.
"I am thrilled she will be gracing the O2 - her show will be a real highlight of the 2010 calendar."
Dame Julie has rarely sung since undergoing throat surgery in 1997 but after hosting a series of concerts in the US last year, has now confirmed a return to the British stage.
Tickets for the May 8th 2010 concert go on sale on Thursday November 26th at 09:00 GMT.
