Boy George has been getting down and dirty on the streets of New York as he begins his community service order.
The singer - whose real name is George O'Dowd - will be armed with a shovel, broom, plastic gloves and bags until Friday as part of his punishment for reporting a false burglary earlier this year.
When police turned up to the reported crime scene, they found little else other than the singer and some cocaine.
After becoming famous in the 1980s for his androgynous appearance and hits such as Karma Chameleon and Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?, Boy George has since battled with drugs problems.
But now it seems he's battling problems of a different kind.
Anna Li, a 16-year-old who volunteered for the Chinatown Youth Initiative, which aims to keep the area's streets clean, told the New York Daily News that the job "stinks".
"The smelly garbage bags, the cigarette butts, flyers and leftover food will keep him busy," she said.
Along with other litter-pickers on community service, Boy George will be accompanied from the headquarters of the sanitation department to the area to be cleaned each day.
The judge who heard his case earlier this year warned that if he failed to carry out the community service then he would face a stint in jail.
