Beyonce and Jay-Z have become parents for the first time, after the singer gave birth to Blue Ivy. According to media reports, this is one of the biggest celebrity births in years.
The pop singer, 30, gave birth by caesarean section on Saturday night (January 8th) in a private wing on the Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan with husband Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, by her side.
Social network Twitter was abuzz with celebrities and well-wishing fans expressing their delight at the news of the star couple's first child.
Hollywood A-lister and close fried Gwyneth Paltrow wrote: "Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already."
The New York Daily News reported that Beyonce checked into the hospital on Manhattan's Upper East Side late Friday, renting out the entire fourth floor for $1.3 million (£841,000).
British singer Cheryl Cole also tweeted her congratulations to the A-list couple. She recently made headlines after apparently patching things up with Simon Cowell after her sacking from the American X Factor.
