US singer Gene Pitney has been found dead at a Cardiff hotel, just hours after performing at the city's St David's Hall.
The 65-year-old singer's body was found in his bed by his manager this morning. Police say his death is not being treated as suspicious.
Pitney became a household name in the 1960s with a string of hits including Twenty Four Hours From Tulsa and Town Without Pity, which went on to win him a Golden Globe and see him receive an Oscar nomination for best song in a motion picture.
He returned to prominence in 1989 when a duet with Soft Cell's Marc Almond saw his earlier hit, Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart, hit the UK number one spot.
In 2002, Pitney was inaugurated into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and he was currently performing on a European tour.
A South Wales police spokesman said that a file is being prepared and the coroner has been informed of the death, which they were notified of at 08:40 BST this morning.
Pitney is survived by his wife, Lynne, and three sons who live in Connecticut in the US.
He had not been ill before his death and was due to play another gig at Colston Hall in Bristol tonight.
