An official synopsis for the upcoming Green Lantern movie has been released, revealing the onscreen nemesis of the DC Comics superhero.
Scheduled for a June 2011 release, the Green Lantern brings the tale of DC Comics hero Hal Jordan to the big screen, with Ryan Reynolds in the lead role and Casino Royale director Martin Campbell helming the project.
And according to Comic Book Movie, Warner Bros have unveiled the planned storyline for its latest superhero outing.
"In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps," the press release reads.
"A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers," read the movie's premise.
"But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan."
The synopsis adds that Jordan must learn to wield his new powers in order to overcome the villain, suggesting that Mark Strong's Sinestro may not be the Green Lantern's archenemy until later in the series.
Campbell will helm the production, with a script written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green, and Donald DeLine producing alongside Berlanti.
