Romantic comedy Couples Retreat has topped the US box office after its first weekend on release.
The Universal Pictures film, starring Vince Vaughn, Malin Akerman and Jon Favreau, claimed the number one spot in the US with a $35.3 million (£22.3 million) opening.
Last week's number one film, horror comedy Zombieland, fell to second while Sony animation Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs continues to perform well, dropping one position to fourth.
Though early reviews have been mixed, Couples Retreat claims the opening day record for a live-action comedy released in October, surpassing the $9.7 million (£6.1 million) haul of Jackass: The Movie in 2002.
Written by Vaughn and Favreau and directed by former child star Peter Billingsley, the comedy tells of four couples who journey to a beautiful island resort only to find their relationships put under the looking glass through some unorthodox therapy sessions.
The only other new entry in the US top ten was Paramount horror Paranormal Activity, which despite its budget of just $16,000 (£10,124), has grossed an impressive $8.3 million (£5.3 million) in its first weekend.
