The Artist has taken four prizes at this year's Critics' Choice Awards.
Michel Hazanavicius took the award for best director, as the silent movie scooped prizes for best picture, best score and best costume design.
On winning the award, Hazanavicius said: "I made a silent movie. I don't like to speak so much."
The Help, based on Kathryn Sockett's best-selling novel, took three gongs including best actress for Viola Davis. It tells the story of African-American maids who are persuaded by a young white woman to secretly work with her on a book about their lives.
Octavia Spencer, who stars alongside Davis, scooped the best supporting actress gong.
Despite being nominated for 11 prizes, Martin Scorsese's animated feature Hugo took only one award, for art direction. It was, however, voted best film of 2011 by the US Board of Review.
