Actor Chris Pine is in talks to star alongside Denzel Washington in upcoming drama Unstoppable.
The Tony Scott film will be Pine's first role since shooting to fame as Captain James T Kirk in Star Trek.
Pine was widely praised by critics for his portrayal of the young Starfleet captain and had been considering a number of tempting offers for his next film.
And according to industry publication Variety, the 28-year-old is now in negotiations to star in 20th Century Fox's Unstoppable having met with Washington and director Scott earlier this week.
The film sees Oscar winner Washington as a veteran train engineers who discovers he is to be fired as a result of company cutbacks and replaced by a newcomer (Pine).
The rivals are forced to work together when an unmanned train careers out of control and threatens to wipe out a nearby city with its cargo of toxic chemicals and poisonous gas.
Mark Bomback's script is based on true events, with Julie Yorn and Mimi Rogers to produce the film alongside helmer Scott.
Unstoppable is due to begin shooting in August ahead of a planned summer 2010 release.
