Spike Lee's new film Miracle at St Anna has been added to the lineup for the Times BFI 52nd London Film Festival.

The war epic, starring Derek Luke, Michael Ealy, Laz Alonso and Omar Benson Miller will screen in the capital on October 16th and 17th.

An adaptation of James McBride's novel, Miracle at St Anna tells the tale of a group of black soldiers fighting against the Nazis in Tuscany.

Staff Sergeant Stamps (Luke), Sergeant Bishop Cummings (Ealy), radio operator Hector Negron (Alonso) and Sam Train (Benson Miller) are members of the all-black 92nd Division Buffalo Soldiers who find themselves trapped behind enemy lines.

The film has already caused controversy, after Lee attacked members of the press for failing to question Clint Eastwood over the lack of black actors in his films about the Battle of Iwo Jima.

"There were many African-Americans who survived that war and who were upset at Clint for not having one [in the films]," he said.

"That was his version: the Negro soldier did not exist. I have a different version."

In response, the Dirty Harry star said Lee should "shut his face" and said his films would have been historically inaccurate had they included black actors.

Alongside Miracle at St Anna, Spanish comedy-drama Lazy Days has also been added to the London Film Festival lineup and will screen on October 16th and 18th.

The Times BFI 52nd London Film Festival takes place from October 15th until October 30th at cinemas across the capital.

Public bookings for the event open on September 27th.
