Snakes on a Plane has managed to knock Pixar's Cars from the top spot in the UK and Ireland box office chart.
The much-hyped film managed to slither its way to number one after cinemagoers decided to see for themselves whether the controversy over the film was justified.
Film critics were banned from seeing screenings of the film, leading some to question whether the producers were too anxious that it would not be well received by the press.
But in its first weekend on screens in the UK and Ireland, Snakes managed to take home £1.07 million, pushing the Disney/Pixar animated Cars into second place.
Starring Samuel L Jackson, the thriller follows the flight of an aeroplane with deadly snakes on board, which are released by a criminal targeting the key witness to a brutal mob murder.
Also entering the UK and Ireland film charts this weekend is the teen comedy John Tucker Must Die, which sees three bitter, cheated-on exes take their revenge on the cad who broke their hearts.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest has continued its popularity on the big screen and is currently at number three in the charts.
