Twilight star Robert Pattinson has confirmed the most nerve-wracking part of filming the sequel New Moon was removing his shirt in front of thousands of extras.
A crucial scene in the second instalment in the Twilight Saga sees Pattinson's character, vampire Edward Cullen, threatening to disrupt an Italian parade by revealing his true nature.
Speaking to Parade.com, the British actor admitted the scene was one of the most awkward moments of his short but hugely successful career to date.
"I felt pretty goofy stepping out into the sunlight in front of 2,000 people in a town square, ripping my clothes off," he explained. "I was essentially doing a striptease."
New Moon, the second film based on Stephenie Meyer's bestselling Twilight Saga novels, is released on Friday and is expected to outdo the impressive box office performance of the first film.

Despite Pattinson's topless scene sending the franchise's dedicated 'Twihard' fans into delirium, the 23-year-old confirmed the set-piece helped him connect with the series' followers and his own character.
"It was also one of the moments where I've really felt closest to people's emotional attachment to Edward," he explained.
"It was a moment where I've felt the whole weight of anticipation, and I guess responsibility as well, of being Edward, for all the people who were kind of so obsessed with the stories."
