A sequel to Trainspotting has been mooted since author Irvine Welsh returned to the same group of fictional Edinburgh friends for 2002 novel Porno though the participation of Ewan McGregor would be key. The Moulin Rouge star shot to fame after playing heroin addict Renton in 1996's Trainspotting but has said making a sequel to a film would be a "terrible shame". Oscar-winning director Boyle and McGregor worked together on Shallow Grave, Trainspotting and A Life Less Ordinary but notably fell out when the former was adapting Alex Garland's hit novel The Beach for the screen. Carlyle, however, would be keen to reprise the character of psychotic Francis Begbie, saying he was "probably the only character I would ever want to revisit because I do believe that there's an awful lot more mileage there in Begbie." "For me personally, I would jump through hoops of fire backwards for Danny Boyle," Carlyle added. "I would do Porno tomorrow for nothing. "I think there is lots more entertainment to be had from that group of people so I would be up for it, and I know Danny seems to be edging more towards it.
