The husband of the late Brittany Murphy has said much of the prescription medication found in their house at the time of the actress' death was his own.

The Clueless actress died on December 20th having suffered a full cardiac arrest at the age of 32.

An autopsy was carried out but the results of toxicology tests to confirm the cause of Murphy's death are still pending.

A number of prescription medications were found at Murphy and Simon Monjack's Los Angeles home after the actress' passing, including antidepressants, painkillers and anxiety medication.

But while Murphy had "laryngitis and flu-like symptoms" at the time of her death, she was not an abuser of prescription pills, her husband has said.

An oral cancer survivor, Monjack told People the presence of medications such as anti-seizure drug Klonopin were for his own health problems.

"I've had seizures," he explained in his first major interview since his wife's death. "We're still trying to establish [why]."

Monjack said his late wife had used painkiller Vicoprofen, but as a treatment for severe menstrual cramps.

"She was on an antibiotic and was taking cough medicine," he added. "No [medications] that could have possibly led to her heart attack."

Murphy's mother Sharon also dismissed speculation that Murphy was a drug user, saying her daughter was naturally "bubbly".

"She never even drank. Maybe a glass of champagne at New Years," Sharon Murphy told People. "But everyone used to say she was wasted, she was this, she was that. It was hard for anyone to imagine that somebody was so high on life."

Monjack and Sharon Murphy have since established the Brittany Murphy Foundation in memory of the actress, with the charity to fund arts education for children.
