The writer and star of Lethal Weapon could reunite for upcoming spy thriller Cold Warrior, reports claim.
After making his first starring role in seven years in Edge of Darkness, Mel Gibson is in talks to star in the Universal Pictures espionage drama, according to Variety.
The film would see the Mad Max star reteaming with Shane Black, writer of Lethal Weapon, who is set to direct Cold Warrior.
Based on a Chuck Mondry script, the movie tells of the titular former Cold War spy who comes out of retirement to aid a younger agent with a Russian-designed domestic terror threat.
As well as reviving his partnership with Black, Cold Warrior will also see Gibson topping the bill on his first major studio project since 2002.
The controversy arising from the actor's 2006 drunk-driving arrest, during which he was said to have made anti-Semitic comments, saw the Braveheart actor's stock fall with Hollywood's big name studios.
He makes his return to the screen in independently-financed Edge of Darkness on Friday and also recently completed work on dark comedy Beaver, with Jodie Foster.
