Filmmaker McG is to direct an upcoming undersea adventure for Disney, it has been announced.
The Charlie's Angels helmer will take the director's chair for 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo, a new film version of Jules Verne's classic novel.
The film - to be scripted by Bill Marsili with Sean Bailey producing - is the first official adaptation of Verne's book since the 1954 Disney version, the first live-action film made by the studio.
Though little is know about the new version, it is rumoured that the "Captain Nemo" suffix of the title could see Disney intending to create a franchise based on the maritime adventurer and his submarine, the Nautilus.
According to Variety, Disney has fast-tracked development on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo, with McG set to commence production after the May 22nd release of Terminator Salvation.
Though 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo will be McG's - real name Sean McGinty - next film, he is already attached to develop a sequel to Terminator Salvation.
Halcyon chiefs Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek had originally planned to await the release of Terminator Salvation in 2009 before commencing work on a fifth film but with fans and critics alike having reacted positively to the fourth film's trailers, they have begun work on a fifth.
