Actor Corey Haim, best known for his role in 80s hit The Lost Boys, has been found dead at the age of 38, police have confirmed.
Haim was found in an unresponsive state at his apartment in Oakwood, near Burbank, said the LAPD's north Hollywood division, and was later pronounced dead at Providence St Joseph's Medical Centre. His mother is said to have been with him at the time.
The cause of Haim's death is believed to have been an accidental drug overdose though police said an autopsy would determine the official cause.
Canadian-born Haim had struggled with drug addiction for much of his career, with his narcotics problem key to the cancellation of A&E reality series The Two Coreys, which tracked the lives and careers of Haim and his Lost Boys co-star Corey Feldman.
Speaking to the Sun in 2004, Haim revealed the extent of his drug abuse, saying: "I was working on Lost Boys when I smoked my first joint.
"I did cocaine for about a year and a half, then it led to crack."
Haim also became addicted to prescription pills saying: "I started on the downers which were a hell of a lot better than the uppers because I was a nervous wreck. But one led to two, two led to four, four led to eight, until at the end it was about 85 a day - the doctors could not believe I was taking that much. And that was just the Valium - I'm not talking about the other pills I went through."
Haim was pronounced dead at at 02:15 am local time at Providence St Joseph Medical Centre in Burbank, according to Los Angeles County coroner's Lieutenant Cheryl MacWillie.
