The Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival begins on Wednesday in the capital, with George Clooney one of several stars set to attend gala screenings.
Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr Fox, an animated adaptation of the beloved Roald Dahl novel, is the opening film of the 2009 event, with its world premiere kicking off a fortnight of the best in British and international film screenings in London.

With 15 world premieres and 146 UK premieres, the Times BFI London Film Festival is a pivotal date in the British movie calendar and promises to attract a host of acting and filmmaking talent to the UK.
Clooney, who voices the title character in Fantastic Mr Fox, is to attend Wednesday's gala premiere, with co-star Meryl Streep and director Anderson also appearing at the Leicester Square event.
Other talent set to attend the festival include Lord of the Rings actor Viggo Mortensen, whose Oscar-tipped film The Road is to receive a gala premiere, Boogie Nights actress Julianne Moore, Bond girl Eva Green and British actors Clive Owen, Ray Winstone and Emma Thompson.
The Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival runs from October 14th until October 29th.
