Underworld director Len Wiseman is in talks to direct a new version of Total Recall for Columbia Pictures.
Equilibrium helmer Wiseman would direct a "contemporized adaptation" of the 1990 sci-fi film, Columbia Pictures announced on Thursday, with a screenplay by Salt writer Kurt Wimmer.
Based on Philip K Dick's short story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, the original film starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and told of a construction worker who plays to go on a virtual vacation to Mars only to discover his deleted memories of his former life.
Commenting on the planned remake, Columbia president Matt Tolmach said: "Len has an incredible love of the genre and a great gift for action.
"He'll bring a contemporary feel to the film while taking care with everything we love about [the] original story."
Wiseman added: "I've always been fascinated with Philip K Dick's short story, and I'm excited at that prospect of diving even deeper into the type of world it evokes and the questions it asks.
"I love that the most crucial mystery our character is trying to solve is the one of his own soul."
Neal H Moritz will produce the remake for Original Film with Toby Jaffe overseeing production.
