Kate Bosworth, who plays Louis Lane in the much-anticipated Superman Returns, stole the show at the film's UK premiere last night.

Brandon Routh, who is the latest Hollywood actor to play the man of steel, has notched up a fair share of column inches recently but it was his feisty co-star who grabbed everyone's attention in London's Leicester Square.

Wearing a stunning backless and very short purple and black Gucci dress, Kate worked the red carpet for 45 minutes, signing autographs and posing for cameras.

But the star, who is currently dating Orlando Bloom, had no desire to hog the limelight and was more than happy to talk about what it was like to star alongside newcomer Routh.

"Brandon is one of the kindest, most generous people I've ever worked with. He's definitely going to go a long way and he didn't need any tips from me," she said.

Commenting on the hype that has surrounded the film, she added: "There's a lot of expectation from fans of the film who have certain ideas about the character and even details like a wave in Lois' hair but it's incredible to have fans who believe so strongly in the film."

In the film, Superman returns after five years in space to find that Louis is a mother and is due to get married. Although the producers admit that there are more emotional elements in the film, there are plenty of action-packed moments to keep all but the most demanding of fans happy.
