Oscar winning actress Kate Winslet and her American Beauty director husband Sam Mendes have separated, their lawyer has confirmed.
A statement from Keith Schillings confirmed the couple, who have been married for six and a half years and have a son named Joe Alfie Winslet Mendes, split "by mutual agreement".
The marriage with Winslet's second, with the Titanic actress a mother to Mia Honey, nine, from her marriage to Jim Threapleton.
"Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year," said Mr Schillings in a statement on Monday afternoon.
"The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement", he added.
"Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children.
"They ask that the media respect their privacy at this time."
Winslet, 34, and 44-year-old Mendes married in a private ceremony in the Caribbean in May 2003.
Both born in Reading, Berkshire, the British pair are both Oscar winners, with Winslet winning an award for The Reader in 2009 after nominations for Titanic, Sense and Sensibility, Iris, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Little Children.
Mendes, meanwhile, won a best director and best picture Oscar for his first feature film American Beauty in 2000 and later directed Road to Perdition (2002), Revolutionary Road (2008) and Away We Go (2009).
Mendes directed his wife to a Golden Globe win for Revolutionary Road, with Winslet thanking the filmmaker for his work ethic in her acceptance speech.
"Thank you for directing this film, babe, and thank you for killing us every single day and really enjoying us actually being in such horrific pain," she said.
"But I can honestly say with my hand on my heart that I loved every second of working with you and it's made me love you more."
