Actor John Hurt is to be made a fellow of the British Film Institute (BFI) as part of the Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival.
The Alien actor, who can be seen in two films at this year's festival - 44 Inch Chest and Limits of Control - will receive the honour at a ceremony on October 28th, the penultimate night of this year's event.
"For me, the BFI is the heart of British cinema," said 69-year-old Hurt. "I consider it the highest honour possible to be awarded a fellowship."
Malian filmmaker Souleymane Cissé will also receive a fellowship at this year's awards ceremony, to be hosted by Paul Gambaccini.
A best film prize will also be presented on the night, with nominees including Wes Anderson's adaptation of Fantastic Mr Fox, Jane Campion's period romance Bright Star, Palme d'Or winner The White Ribbon and post-apocalyptic tale The Road.
New films from Jean-Pierre Jeunet and the Coen Brothers are also nominated for the award, as well as British artist Sam Taylor-Wood's debut film Nowhere Boy, about the adolescent John Lennon.
Actors Matthieu Kassovitz and Charlotte Rampling and musician Jarvis Cocker are among the members of the judging panel for the best film award, with actress Anjelica Huston chairing the panel.
The Sutherland Trophy will be awarded to "the maker of the most original and imaginative first feature screening in the festival" while the shortlist for the British newcomer award includes two nominations each for Kicks and The Scouting Book for Boys.
The Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival runs from October 14th until October 29th.
