The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) has confirmed it is to begin discussions over a new working conditions contract with the studios.
With memories of the screenwriters strike fresh in the memory the industry is hoping there will be no repeat of the 100-day walkout that crippled Hollywood just seven weeks ago.
The talks will begin on April 15th, at the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) headquarters in Encino, California.
"Now we have concluded out wages and working conditions process and the SAG national board has approved out proposal package, we look forward to productive negotiations," said SAG national executive director Doug Allen.
The talks will concern a new three-year contract for the 120,000 SAG members, and the formation of their relationship with the AMPTP.
Although the last talks to negotiate a deal between the two parties took just two weeks to resolve, a new militant leadership has emerged in the SAG, which is opposed to the terms of the last contract.
The apparent unwillingness to begin negotiations immediately has also raised fears another strike could be on the cards.
This could once again end in disaster for Hollywood. SAG was a strong supporter of the writers guide strike, and would expect solidarity action should it decide to walk away from the table.
